Gulmarg which means “Meadow of flowers” and was named by Sultan Yusuf Shah is a beautiful hill station located in the Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir. This scenic hill station is situated in the Pirpanjal range in the western Himalayas. According to a myth, this hill station was initially named “Gaurimarg” or the fair one by shepherds in honor of Hindu goddess Parvati (wife of Lord Shiva). This beautiful hill station is known for its natural meadows which are covered in snow during winters and growth of exotic flowers such as daisies, forget-me-not, butter cups etc during spring and summer. Gulmarg is also popular as a skiing destination and for a golf course which is located at an altitude of 2,650 meters which is considered to be a world record. So if you are a genuine nature lover or a skiing enthusiast then “Gulmarg” is certainly one destination that you need to explore.

By train:

The closest railway station to Gulmarg is in Jammu located at a distance of 290 km. The Jammu Railway Station well connected to all major towns and cities in the country. Taxi and bus services to Gulmarg are available from Jammu Railway Station.

By road:

There is a number of bus services from places like Srinagar, Sonmarg, and other towns in Kashmir that connect to Gulmarg. Srinagar and Pahalgam are the starting points located in close proximity to Gulmarg.

Climate and the best time to visit Gulmarg Hills

The climate throughout the year in Gulmarg can range from pleasant summers to extreme winters. The temperatures recorded during the summer months of March to May varying from 29 degrees to 13 degrees. Moderate rainfall is received during the monsoon season beginning from July and extending up to August while, the winters (November to February) are severe and the temperatures range from 11 degrees to -4 degrees. So the ideal time to visit this beautiful hill station is from March to October.

NingleNallah: Is a beautiful stream that flows through the mountain. A relaxed ambiance and natural beauty are the major reasons why this spot is a tourist destination. This spot is located at about 10 km away from Gulmarg.

Drung: Is yet another beautiful stream that is a very popular site for rock climbing and fishing.

Alpathar Lake: Is a calm and beautiful lake with mesmerizing natural beauty. This is a popular picnic spot. The beautiful background consisting of hills and snow clad mountains only adds more beauty to this lake and makes it a real tourist delight.
