5 Reasons For Visiting Mahabaleshwar

Mahabaleshwar which once served as the “summer capital” for the Bombay Province during the British Raj is a scenic hill station that is located in Maharashtra. Elevated at an altitude of 1372 meters above sea level this tranquil hill station is known for its natural beauty that includes evergreen forests, beautiful orchards, and wildlife. It also provides for magnificent views of the surrounding peaks and deep green woods. There are also many other reasons why Mahabaleshwar must be visited.

The five reasons for visiting Mahabaleshwar are as follows

  1. Tapola: Is a small village located at a distance of 25 km away from Mahabaleshwar. It is popular due to the magnificent view of the Koyana dam that it provides for. It is also known for its serene environment and cool climate.
  2. Arthur’s Seat: Was established by a British officer called Sir Arthur Malet. This popular spot provides for a beautiful view of the Savitri valley.
  3. Lingmala Waterfall: Is located near Mahabaleshwar. The water from this waterfall falls from a height of 600 feet.
  4. Pratapgad: Is famous fort in this region. This fort was built by Maratha Emperor Shivaji Maharaj. It was at this fort that the Commander of Bijapur Afzal Khan was famously defeated and killed by Shivaji.
  5. Wilson Point: This point is the highest in Mahabaleshwar and is elevated at an altitude about 1439 meters above sea level. It is from this point that beautiful views of sunrise and sunset can be witnessed. This point also provides a beautiful view of the whole hill station i.e. Mahabaleshwar.
