The city of Mumbai is known for its cultural vibrancy as well as for a typical tropical climate consisting of humidity. Now, the Meteorology Department of India has predicted that the country will experience an unbearably “hot summer” this year. It therefore becomes essential that people living in Mumbai find a weekend getaway in order to beat the “scorching” heat that has been predicted this summer.  So, here is presenting a list of 5 ideal “Weekend Getaways” situated in close proximity to Mumbai that are truly worth visiting.

a. Lonavala:

“Len and Avali” are the two ancient Prakrit language words which when fused forms Lonavala, a picturesque hill station situated at a distance of 96 Lonavala kilometers from Mumbai.  Located at an elevated an altitude of 624 meters above sea level, it is known for the magnificent views of the western ghats that it provides for. Furthermore, this hill station is also known for a number of beautiful caves such as Karla, Bhaja, and Bedsa. It is popular for the production of a candy known as “chiki”. b. Matheran:

A song from 1998 Bollywood movie  “Ghulam” made Khandala, a picturesque hill station located at a distance of 90 kilometers from Mumbai.Khandala Situated at an elevation of 550 meters above sea level,  it is known for its beautiful  landscape . Furthermore, this hill stations is renowned for sites such as Tiger’s Leap and Amrutanjan Point, which provides for magnificent views of the surrounding valleys. d. Mahabaleshwar:

Located in the Sahyadri Mountain range, is a quaint hill station known as Mahabaleshwar situated at a distance of 285 km from Mumbai. Elevated at  Mahabaleshwar an altitude of 1353 meters above sea level, it is known for it is picturesque beauty. This beautiful hill station is popular for sites such as Arthur and 3 Monkey Point  which provides for magnificent views of the surroundings. In addition, the Venna Lake is a site located over here attracts a large  number of tourists.
