The closest stations to Abbott Mount are Tanakpur and Kathkgodam. While Kathgodam is located 163 km away from Abbott, Tanakpur has located only 80 km away. These two stations are well connected to all major cities of India making travel to Abbott Mount easily accessible.
By road:
There are bus services available from Delhi. The duration of the journey from Delhi to Abbott Mount is approximately 11 hours. The distance of the journey from Delhi is approximately 437 km. The drive from Delhi is via Moradabad, Rampur, Rudrapur, Khatima, Tanakpur, and Lohaghat. There exist other routes such as from Nainital via Dhanachuli, and Devidhura and Ranikhet via Almora. Both these routes approximately take six hours.
By Air:
The nearest airport to Abbott Mount is the Pantnagar Airport. This airport is a domestic airport and is well connected by flights from Delhi and Chandigarh. This airport is about 180 km from Abbott Mount.
Climate and best time to visit Abbott Mount
The summers in this region exists from March to June with temperature ranging from a maximum of 20 degrees C to a minimum of 10 degrees C. The monsoon season sets in from July to September and the region receives sporadic rainfall. The winters from November to February are extremely harsh with temperatures falling below sub zero level. So since the summers are docile and during the monsoons the region appears beautiful the ideal time to visit would be from March to November.
Places To Visit Around Abbott Mount
Mayawati Ashram: Located at an elevation of approximately 1,940 meters above sea level, the Mayawati Ashram is a highly spiritual site. The publication office of ‘Prabuddh Bharat’ was moved by Swami Vivekanand to here from Madras. There is a nice museum and library inside the ashram. Mayawati Ashram is also called Advaita Ashram.
Pancheshwar: This area is popular for excursion. It houses the popular Chaumu Temple. The reigning deity here is Lord Shiva who is seen here as the protector of animals.
VanasurKaKila: Perched at a towering elevation of 1,859 meters above sea level, the VanasurkaKila is believed to have been once the capital city of demon Vanasur, who got defeated in the hands of Lord Krishna.
Champawat: Once the capital of the Chand rulers, the place enjoys a pleasant climate and has a very colorful surrounding. Nature is always at its best here. The well-manicured lands, the wide range of wild animals, and plenty of unique vistas make this an amazing location in Abbott Mount. There are many ancient monuments and temples that display some magnificent architecture. The main draws here are the fort, Nagnath temple, Rataneshwar, and Baleshwar temples that were built in the 16th century.
Other places of interest nearby: Lohaghat, which is located within a short distance, is a nice place to visit from Abbott Mount. One can also pay a visit to Patal Bubhaneshwar for a weekend getaway.
