In the Thiruvananthapuram district in Kerala lies a beautiful 1,868-meter peak called “Agastya Mala” also known as Agasthyakoodam. This peak is located within the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary in the Western Ghats. This peak is a famous Hindu pilgrimage centre which is dedicated to a sage called “Agastya” who is considered to be one of the seven Rishis of the Hindu Puranas.  This peak is also an ideal destination for trekking. So if you are a passionate trekker then “Agastya Mala” is certainly a destination that you need to explore.

By train:

The two closest railway stations to Agastya Mala are Ambasamudram in Tamil Nadu and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. Both these railway stations are well connected to major towns and cities in the country.

By road:

There are number of bus services available from Thiruvananthapuram Central Bus Station to Agastya Mala. These buses travel up to a town called Bonacaud which is located at a distance of 15 km from Agastya Mala.

By flight:

The closest airport to Agastya Mala is in Thiruvananthapuram. The Thiruvananthapuram Airport is well linked to most cities and towns in the country.

Climate and the best time to visit Agastya Mala

The climate in Agastya Mala can best be described as “tropical”. The summer months which begin in April and ends in July are hot and humid with the mercury rising to up to 35 degrees. Due to its geographical location this region experiences two months of monsoon i.e. May to July and October to November. The rainfall received during this period is heavy. The winter sets in usually around October and ends in January.  The best time to visit this beautiful peak is in between November to March.

Place To Visit Around Agastya Mala

  1. Manjolai Hills: Are hills located at an altitude of 1000 to 1500 meters above sea level. This region is located deep in the Western Ghats. This area also consists of beautiful tea plantations.
  2. Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary: Is a sanctuary that is popular for its flora and fauna. This sanctuary includes a variety of animals such as tiger, leopard, sloth bear, elephant, sambar, barking deer etc. There is also deer rehabilitation center located in this sanctuary.
