Located in the north of “Tropic of Cancer” in the northern part of Mizoram is a scenic hill station called “Aizawl”. This beautiful hill station is also the capital of Mizoram.  It is located at an altitude of 3715 feet above sea level. This hill station is known for its pristine environment and true natural beauty. Apart from its natural beauty the people of Aizawal are warm hearted and friendly. So if you are genuine nature lover who also enjoys a different culture then “Aizawl” is certainly a destination that you would want to explore.

By train:

The closest station to Aizawl is in Silchar. The Silchar Railway Station is located at a distance of 130 km from Aizawl.

By road:

There are a number of state transport bus services and private bus services available from places like Guwahati, Silchar, and Shillong to Aizawl. Guwahati and Shillong are starting points that are located in close proximity to Aizawl.

Aizawl has it its own airport which is well linked to many major cities and towns in the country.

Climate and the best time to visit Aizawl

“Pleasant to cold” is the best way to describe the climate in Aizawl. The summer months of March to May are pleasant with temperatures ranging from 20 degrees to 30 degrees. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in June and ends in September is heavy. October marks the onset of winter season which extends to February. During these months the climate is in general cold with temperature varying from 10 degrees to 21 degrees. Since the climate is in general pleasant there is no specific ideal time and so Aizawl can be visited all anytime in the year.

Places To Visit Around Aizawl

  1. Bara Bazaar: Is considered to be a most famous flea market in Aizawl. It is famous for local items and traditional clothes. In this market locals also sell items such as river crabs, wicker baskets, vegetables etc.
  2. Mini Zoological Garden: Is a Zoological garden located on a hill and is also called “Bethlehem Vengthlang”. It possesses a wide range of wild animals that are not commonly seen in many zoos in India.
  3. Dampa Sanctuary: Is a sanctuary that was established in the year 1976. This sanctuary is famous for its rich flora and fauna. The animals observed in this sanctuary include elephants, tigers, leopards etc.
  4. Bung Picnic Spot: Is a beautiful picnic spot located 15 km from Aizawl city. This spot is surrounded by greenery all around and is an ideal place for a family picnic.
  5. Museum at MacDonald’s Hill: Is a museum located on top of a hill that possesses a peaceful environment while the museum contains many interesting stories to tell.
  6. Durtlangs Hills: Is a major tourist attraction in Aizawl. It is a hill that offers a beautiful view of the city Aizawl. It is from this hill that city looks like a “shiny golden plate” in the morning and at night appears to be “a starlit cascade” which makes it a real visual delight for tourists.
