In the West Kameng district in the state of Arunachal Pradesh lies a sparsely populated (according to the 2001 census it has a population of around 6685) and scenic hill station called “Bomdila”. This hill station is elevated at an altitude of 2217 above sea level.  It is famous for its Buddhist monasteries and apple orchards. This region also provides for an ideal landscape for trekking and is considered as a “trekker’s paradise. It is also popular for the breath taking views of the Kameng Valley. This hill station also represents a rich Tibetan culture. And according to history, Bomdila was a part of Tibet before the British brought this region in 1873. So if you are nature lover or a trekking enthusiast then “Bombdila” is a place for you to visit.

By train:

The nearest station is in Rangapara. The Rangapara Railway Station is well connected to many of the major cities and towns in the country. Taxi or bus services from Rangapara to Bomdila are available.

By road: 

There are a number of state transport bus services that operate from places like Tezpur, Rangapura, and Guwahati to Bomdila. Additionally, jeeps and SUV services are also available.

By flight:

The nearest airport to Bomdila is in Tezpur. The Tezpur Airport which is located at a distance of 160 km away from Bomdila is well linked to many major cities and towns in the country.

Climate and the best time to visit Bomdila Hills

“A temperate climate” is the best way to describe the climate in Bomdila. The summers that begin in April and end in May is pleasant with the temperature varying from 32 degrees to 20 degrees. The rainfall received during the monsoon season i.e. July to September is moderate. The winters which begin in December and ends in February are cold with temperature ranging from 11 degrees to 26 degrees. The best time to visit this scenic and sparsely populated hill station is in between April to October.

Places To Visit Around Bomdila

  1. Tibetan Monasteries: Truly represent the Tibetan culture that is present in this hill station. The view of the mountains that surround these monasteries is extremely scenic and is an ideal tourist hotspot. These monasteries are also home to Buddhist Lamas and monks.
  2. Apple Orchards: Of Bomdila are quite popular amongst tourists. The view of these orchards is extremely charming which is why it attracts a large of a number of tourists every year.
  3. The Orchid Research and Development Station: Is an Orchid conservation sanctuary located at Sessa and Dirang. It is a popular tourist hotspot.
