Located at a distance of 10 km away from Geyzing in West Sikkim and elevated at an altitude of 2,150 meters above sea level is an extremely scenic town called “Pelling”. At the moment apparently this town is the most popular tourist destination in the state after Gangtok. It is mainly popular for the breath taking views of the Himalayas and the Kanchenjunga. Since Buddhism plays a major part in the culture of Sikkim a number of Buddhist monasteries are available in this scenic town. In terms of food the local Sikkimese culture consist of Dal bhat, Thupka (a noodle based vegetable soup), Momo (stuffed minced meat), and Phagshapa (a strip of pork fat stewed).
