Dalhousie is a famous Himachal Pradesh hill station was named after a British Governor General Lord Dalhousie. This hill station was used by the British Empire as a summer retreat for its troops and officials. It is geographically located on the western boundary of the Dhauladhar mountain range of the magnificent Himalayas. This hill station is beautifully spread over five hills that include Bakrota, Kathlog, Tehra, Balun, and Potreys.   During winters with the peaks completely covered in snow Dalhousie typically looks like a “paradise on earth”. So if relaxation for your soul is the need of the hour then “Dalhousie” is the destination you need.

By train:

The nearest railway station to Dalhousie is Pathankot located in Punjab. The Pathankot railway station is well connected to major cities in the country like Mumbai, Delhi, Amritsar etc.

By road:

The starting points to Dalhousie would be from Shimla and Dharamsala.

Climate and best time to visit Dalhousie Hill

The climate in Dalhousie right through the year is pleasant. With the temperature during the summer(March to May) with temperature usually remaining below 35 degrees. The rainfall received during the monsoon months that begins in mid-June and ends mid-Septembermber is moderate and is usually quite pleasant. While the winters( December to February) are extremely cold with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 10 degrees to a minimum of 1 degree with snowfall being a key feature. With winters being severe the best time to visit Dalhousie is during the summer.

Places To Visit Around Dalhousie

Panchpula: It has one of the best landscapes with plenty of pools around. The historical monument constructed in the memory of freedom fighter SardarAjit Singh is worth a visit.

Churches: There are four churches in Dalhousie, which are well-known. They are St.John’s Church at Gandhi Chowk, St. Andrew’s Church and St. Patrick’s Church at Balun, and St. Francis church at SubhashChowk.

Satdhara: Located enroute to PanchPulla, this is an amazing spot displaying fascinating scenic beauty. It has derived its name from seven springs whose water gushes down with great speed and is a real treat for the eyes. The water is believed to have curative powers.

Kalatop: It is a superb wildlife sanctuary renowned for the Himalayan black bear and ghoral.

SubhashBaoli: It is a charming spot where freedom fighter NetajiSubhash Chandra Bose spent a considerable period of time in 1937.

Some other places of interest within a close distance from Dalhousie are Bakrota hills, Alla, and Dainkund.
