One among the many popular hill stations in Uttarakhand is a hill station called “Dhanaulti”. This hill station is located on the Mussoorie-Chamba road about 24 km away from Mussoorie and 31 km from Chamba. Dhanaulti is known for its extremely serene atmosphere and natural beauty. The beautiful landscapes, mountains, forests of oak, pine, and Rhododendron all add up to make this hill station a tourist destination.  So if you are a genuine nature lover and you are in search of peace of mind then “Dhanaulti” is certainly a place that you need to visit.

By train:

The nearest station to Dhanaulti is in Dehradun. The Dehradun railway station is well connected to some of the major railway stations in the country.

By road:

There many bus services from places in and around Dhanaulti like Haridwar, Roorkee, Rishikesh, Dehradun, Mussoorie, and Nainital. Additionally, bus services are also available from Chandigarh and Delhi to Mussoorie from where you can travel to Dhanaulti. Haridwar and Dehradun are starting points located in close proximity to Dhanaulti.

The nearest airport is the Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. The closest international airport is the New Delhi Airport.

Climate and best time to visit Dhanaulti

The climate of Dhanaulti can be termed as “sub tropical”.  The temperature during the summer months of April, May, and June varies between 7 degrees to 31 degrees. This beautiful hill station receives substantial rainfall during the monsoon season that begins in July and ends in September. Hence the monsoon season is not an ideal time to visit. Winter is usually severe (November to February) with temperature varying between 1 degree to 7 degree.  The best time to visit this scenic hill station is from April to June i.e. summer months.

Places To Visit Around  Dhanaulti

Eco Park: This is one of the best spots to visit. There are two of these eco parks here, known as Ambar and Dhara. One can take help of a guide to tour the entire park. A visitor is permitted entry into the park against a nominal fee.

Potato Farm: This is also known as ‘AlooKhet’ and is situated near the main market of the town. It is owned by the Uttarakhand Government and is a superb spot for watching sunrise. One will be completely smitten by the exotic view of the Doon Valley from here. A traveler can ride on a horse to explore the place comfortably.

Camp Thangdhar: This adventure camp is located within a short distance from the main market area. It has a perfect environ for trekking, rock climbing, hiking, river crossing, and many other outdoor activities. It also serves as a superb bird watching spot.

Barehipani and Joranda Falls: Located near Dhanaulti, these two waterfalls are a prime attraction. They flow through the Simlipal National Park and serves as a perfect location for picnicking and honeymooning.

Deogarh Fort: Built in the 16th century, this fort is among the 52 forts of Uttarakhand. The fort houses old Jain temples and some magnificent palaces.

Dashavatar Temple: This temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu and was constructed during the Gupta dynasty. It is considered to be the oldest of the Panchyatan temple of North India. The three carved panels on the side-walls depict Vaishnava mythology.

Matatila Dam: Enjoying a beautiful location amid the majestic hills of Dhanaulti, this place provides plenty of opportunities for water sport activities and picnic.

Other places of tourist interest with close proximity to Dahaulti include Rishikesh, Mori, Haridwar, Chamba, New Tehri, Mussoorie, Kanatal, Surkanda Devi trek, Devprayag, and Rudraprayag.
