By train:
The closest meter gauge station to Dharamkot is Kangra Railway Station. While the closest broad gauge station is Pathankot which is well connected to some of the major cities in the country.
By road:
There are a number of deluxe bus services provided from Delhi to McLeodganj (closest point to Dharmkot). Additionally, there are many state bus services that connect McLeodganj to many neighboring cities.
By flight:
Dharamsala airport is also known as Gaggal airport is the nearest airport to Dharmkot. This airport receives flights from Kulu and New Delhi three times a week. The closest international airport is in New Delhi.
Climate and the best time to visit Dharamkot Hill
The climate of Dharmkot is normally good throughout the year. The temperature during summer time varies between 22 degrees to 38 degrees and is the best time for outdoor activities like paragliding and trekking. The winters are severe and snowfall is a common occurrence. Rainfall received during the monsoons is substantial. So the ideal time to visit this place is from June to mid-September. Additionally, February to April is also a good time to visit this beautiful hill station.
Places To Visit Around Dharmkot
Bhagsu Falls: The waterfall is small but too beautiful. The Bhagsunath temple close by is a great pilgrimage site. One can reach this site either by an auto rickshaw or taxi. However, trekking up to the waterfall will surely be a great choice.
Dal Lake: The tranquil beauty of the lake is something to be cherished for life. A fair is held annually on the banks of this lake drawing a hefty crowd. The lake is considered to be very sacred. There is also a temple devoted to Sage Durvasa, nearby.
Hanuman-Ka-Tibba: It serves as a superb route for the trekkers, located in front of McLeodganj. The panoramic views are simply unforgettable. The peak is also known as ‘White Mountain’ which offers stupendous vistas of the PirPanjal and Dhauladhar ranges.
Triund: It is a crest located in the Dhauladhar ranges that offer superb views of the Moon peak-Indera Pass. Triund has an unspoiled atmosphere making it ideal for camping and trekking.
Tibet Museum: Situated inside the Tsuglagkhang Complex in Mcleodganj, this museum displays a typical Tibetan architectural style which is beautifully combined with modern architecture. It is home to several significant manuscripts, historical documents, handicraft items, Thangka images, and pottery works. There are shops around selling artifacts, handicrafts, and paintings. Namgyal Monastery is within a close proximity.
Namgyal Monastery: It houses the residence of the spiritual leader Dalai Lama. The monastery overlooks the gorgeous Dhauladhar ranges. The natural beauty of the place is enhanced further by the presence of pine forests. The Naam Art Gallery inside the monastery is worth a visit.
Other places with attractions for tourists and are in close proximity to Dharmkot include Dharamsala, Kangra, Palampur, Nurpur, Uletokpo, Nadaun, Pathankot, Kathua, and Mandi.
