‘White Water’ is what Diphu, a small picturesque hill station in Assam means when literally translated. It is located at an elevation of 186 m (610 feet) above sea level in the Karbi Anglong district. Furthermore, this quaint town is  ‘home’ to a number of indigenous communities.  They include: the Karbis, Dimasa Kachari, Tiwa Kachari, Bodo Kachari, and Garo Kachari. It is also renowned for a number of churches, temples, mosques, and a gurudwara. Festivals such as Christmas, Durga Puja, and Diwali are celebrated in grand style over here. In other words, this hill station is known for its cultural harmony. So, for all those who intend to travel to this hill station, here is presenting a few facts that one needs to know.

How to Reach Diphu?

1. By train: 

The Diphu Railway Station is located in close proximity to this scenic hill station. This station is well connected to major cities in the country.

2. By road: 

The ideal starting points to get to this hill station would be Guwahati, Dimapur, Kohima, and Shillong.

a. Via Guwahati:

There is one route from Guwahati to Diphu via NH-27, which takes about  4 hours and 59 minutes.

b. Via Dimapur:

There is one route from Dimapur  to Diphu via SH-36, which takes about  1 hour and 54 minutes.

c. Via Kohima:

There are three routes from Dimapur  to Diphu via NH-29 and SH-36 which takes 4 hours  and 30 minutes, via NH-29 which takes 5 hours and 6 minutes, and via SH-36 which takes 6 hours and 12 minutes.

d. Via Shillong: 

There are two routes from Dimapur  to Diphu via AH1/AH2 which takes 6 hours and 14 minutes and NH-27  and via NH-6. which takes 7 hours  and 51 minutes.

3. By air:

The nearest airport to this hill station is located at distance of 31 km in Dimapur, Nagaland. It is connected to major cities  in the country.

Climate and the best time to Diphu:

The climate of Diphu is subtropical in nature. The temperature during the summer months that begins in April and ends in June ranges from 24 degrees to 30 degrees. While during winters which begin in October and ends in February the temperature ranges from 10 degrees to 14 degrees. During monsoons (July to September) this hill station receives a substantial amount of rain. Since the winter season is pleasant and not severe it is the ideal time to visit this beautiful hill station.

Places To Visit Around Diphu:

There are number of places worth visiting around Diphu. They are as follows:

a. Statue of Rongpharpi Rongbe:

Located in the middle of this beautiful hill station is magnificent statue of Rongpharpi Rongbe and her comrades. According to the history of this region, Rongbe was the first  ever woman to  have fought for the rights of women.

b. Taralangso: 

Is a cultural organization located in the ‘heart’ of this hill station. It is the headquarters of the ‘Karbi Cultural Society’, and is renowned for organizing a festival known as ‘Karbi Youth Festival’, which is celebrated annually.

c. Botanical Garden:

Situated at a distance of 7 km from Diphu is the ‘Botanical Garden’. It is mainly renowned for variety in trees, herbs and orchids.

d. Recreation Park cum Medicinal Garden:

Located alongside the Diphu-Manja road is the ‘Recreational Park cum Medicinal Garden. It is known for its trees and it herbs and is poplar with tourists. In  addition, boating facility can be found in close proximity to this park.

Interesting Facts:

A number of parks such as the Khorsing Ingti Children Park, Semsongsing Ingti Memorial Park, and Gandhi Park are also located in close proximity to this hill station. It also is home to the relay center for the ‘Doordarhan’ television network.  The ‘Diphu Pincode’ is 782460, 782462. There are also a number of ‘hotels in Diphu’ such as the FLOATING BEAUTY INN Hotel & Restaurant, Hotel Borlongki etc.
