Haflong is a scenic hill station located in Assam also commonly referred to as “White ant Hillock”. This hill station is located at about 310 km from Guwahati, the largest city in Assam. Haflong is famous for its beautiful hills(called Haflong hills), landscapes, valleys, and mountains. This hill station is also famous for a beautiful lake known as “Haflong Lake” located at the center of the town. It is also renowned for its natural beauty So if tranquility and nature’s beauty is what you want to enjoy then “Haflong” is a destination that you must explore.

By train:

The lower Haflong area has a meter gauge railway station that is connected to Jatinga, Silchar, Maibong, and Lumding. There are frequent trains running between Guwahati and Lumding.

By road:

There are many bus services including state owned bus services that are available in many major cities in Assam such as Guwahati, Dimapur, Golaghat, Jorhat, Neigong, and Diphu.

By flight:

The closest airport to Haflong is located in Shillong in Meghalaya. Although, Guwahati airport which is well connected to major cities in the country like Kolkata, Mumbai, Agartala, Imphaletc could also be used.

Climate and the best time to visit Haflong

The climate of Haflong is subtropical in nature. The temperature during the summer months that begins in April and ends in June ranges from 24 degrees to 30 degrees. While during winters which begin in October and ends in February the temperature ranges from 10 degrees to 14 degrees. During monsoons (July to September) this hill station receives a substantial amount of rain. Since the winter season is pleasant and not severe it is the ideal time to visit this beautiful hill station.

Places To Visit Around Haflong    

Haflong Lake: Located right in the center of Haflong, this lake is a major tourist draw. It is one of the biggest water bodies in Assam. It is often referred to as the ‘Scotland of Assam’ for its enormous beauty. While touring the lake on a boat, one will enjoy the splendid beauty of the hill station. 

Muolhoi Village: This is a perfect location to enjoy the rich culture and tradition of the Hmar people. 

Maibong: This was the old capital of the DimasaKachari kingdom. It existed from mid 16th to the mid 18th century. It houses the ruins of the kingdom that includes a stone house and also a temple that belonged to the Kachari kings. The 12th-century monolithic Ramchandi temple stands here. 

Jatinga: The Jatinga village is a popular site for bird-watching. A variety of migratory birds fly here in the month of August to November. The annual rock concert held here draws a major crowd. 

Other places of tourist interest in close proximity to Haflong include Tezpur, Silchar, Kaziranga, Hajo, Jorhat, Guwahati, and Sibsagar.
