In the district of Nashik in the state of Maharashtra at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level lies a beautiful hill station called “Igatpuri”. This hill station is located in the Western Ghats. The fact that Igatpuri is surrounded some of the highest peaks in the Sahyadris makes it a “trekker’s paradise”. This hill station is also known for its tranquil environment and natural beauty. It is also known for being surrounded by greenery, windy weather, and beautiful waterfalls which appear even more beautiful during the monsoons. So if you are in love with nature’s beauty or you are a trekking enthusiast then “Igatpuri” is certainly a destination that you need to visit.

By train:

Igatpuri has its own railway station. The Igatpuri Railway Station is well connected to most of the major cities and towns in Maharashtra. This railway station also happens to located on a major railway line i.e. New Delhi-Mumbai railway line and so well connected to major cities in the country like Bangalore, Mysore, Lucknow, Chennai, Jaipur, New Delhi etc.

By road:

There are a number of bus services that are available from cities like Mumbai and Pune to Igatpuri. This hill station is also well-connected by road to places like Agra via NH-3 i.e. National Highway 3.

By flight:

The nearest airport is the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai which approximately three hours away from Igatpuri. This airport is well connected to major cities in the country and worldwide such as Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Delhi, Gwalior, Goa etc.

Climate and the best time to visit Igatpuri

“Pleasant in the winters and burning hot in the summers” is the best way to sum up the climate in Igatpuri. The temperatures during summers which begin in March and end in May varies from 23 degrees to 37 degrees. Heavy rainfall is received during the monsoon season beginning from June and extending to September. During winter months of December to February, the temperatures vary from 15 degrees to 29 degrees. The ideal time to visit Igatpuri is from October to March.

Places To Visit  Around Igatpuri

Igatpuri is popular tourist destination and there are number of tourist attractions and they include

  1. Tringalwadi Fort: Is a famous fort located in Igatpuri elevated at an altitude of 3,000 feet above sea level. It is located in the Sahyadri hill range and is home to a small temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman.
  2. Vipassana International Academy: Is a famous meditation center in Igatpuri. In this Academy, an ancient technique of meditation called “Vipassana” is taught. This academy usually offers meditation courses of 10 days duration.
  3. Igatpuri Lakes: There two beautiful lakes in this scenic hill station located near the railway station. The bigger lake is called “The Railway Lake” and is situated near the Girnar village while the smaller lake is located near the pumping house. Both these lakes are ideal tourist attractions.
  4. Avandha Fort: Is a famous fort which is popularly known for its rock cut caves and water tanks. It is located at an altitude of 4,300 feet above sea level and hence is a perfect spot for trekking.
  5. GhatandeviMandir: This famous temple is dedicated to Goddess Ghatan Devi, protector of the Ghats. This temple is a major tourist attraction because of its beautiful surroundings.
