In the beautiful north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh lies a charming city called “Itanagar”. This city is located in the foothills of the Himalayas. This city also is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. Itanagar is known for its pleasant climate throughout the year. Apart from the climate, this city is known for its beautiful valleys and landscapes.  This city is also commonly referred to as “Land of the Dawn lit Mountains”.  Interesting historical sites like Ita fort also add to the charm of this city as a whole. There is also a number of beautiful tea plantations and apple orchids which are real tourist delights. So if you are deeply in love with nature than “Itanagar” is the destination that you need to visit.

By train:

The nearest railway station is in Harrmoty. Transport facilities are available from Harrmoty Railway Station to Itanagar.

By road:

There are a number of bus services from Guwahati to Itanagar. There are also state bus services that are available from places like Shillong,  Guwahati, Pomaetc to Itanagar. Shillong and Guwahati are starting points that are located in close proximity to Itanagar.

By flight:

The nearest airport is in Lilabari. Taxi, car, and bus services from Lilabari Airport to Itanagar are available. Another option is the Nahariagun airport which is located at 67 km away from the city.

Climate and the best time to visit Itanagar

The climate in Itanagar is pleasant throughout the year. The temperature during summer which begins in May and end in June ranges from 18 degrees to 30 degrees. Heavy rainfall is usually received during the monsoon season which begins in July and ends in September. The average annual rainfall is 66 cm while winters that begin in October to April are mild with temperature ranging from 15 degrees to 22 degrees. The best time to visit this beautiful city is from October to March.

Places To Visit Around Itanagar

There are a few tourist attractions and they include

  1. The Buddhist Temple: Is a beautiful yellow roofed temple. This temple is also surrounded by a garden which serves as an ideal picnic spot.
  2. Polo Park: Is one of the most beautiful places in the city and attracts a lot of tourist.
  3. Ita Fort: Or also known as “the fort of bricks” is one of the most popular tourist hotspots in the city. This fort is located in the centre of the city. The construction of the fort was carried out by using irregular shapes and date back to the 14th-15th century.
