At an altitude of 1,250 meters above sea level lies a beautiful hill station called “Kalimpong” in West Bengal. This hill station is also the headquarters of the Kalimpong district. It is located on a ridge that overlooks the beautiful Teesta River. It is popular for its diverse culture, wildlife, heritage spots etc. The 27th Mountain Division of the Indian Army is also located in this hill station. Since this hill station was ruled by Bhutanese kings till the 19th century there are Buddhists monasteries that exist even today. Climate and the best time to visit Kalimpong
“Temperate” is the best way to define the climate of Kalimpong. During summers which begin in March and end in May, the temperatures are always less than 30 degrees. The rainfall received during monsoons which begin in June and extend to September is heavy. Landslides are quite commonly observed during this season. While the winter months that begin in December and end in February is in general cool to at times severe with temperature ranging from about less than 15 degrees to a minimum of subzero. The sub zero me to visit is either from March to May or from September to December.
