Khajjiar Hills – Himachal Pradesh

In the state of Himachal Pradesh in the district of Chamba, here is a beautiful hill station known as “Khajjiar”. This hill station is elevated at an altitude of 6,500 feet above sea level and is located in the foothills of Dhauladhar ranges in the Western Himalayas. This tranquil hill station also has a history of having being ruled by the Mughals and the Rajputs in the past. The USP i.e. unique selling point of Khajjiar is the presence of a three ecosystem i.e. lake, pasture, and forest. It is also known to have a beautiful golf course. As a result of which this hill station is perfect for avid golf players. So if you possess a genuine love for nature or if you happen to be an avid golf player then “Khajjiar” is a destination that you must visit.

By train:

The closest station is the Pathankot railway station. Regular trains from places like Tatanagar, Kolkata, Delhi, Jammu Tawi, Hatia, Udhampur, and Bhatinda arrive at Pathankot.

By roads:

There many bus services available for Khajjiar from Dalhousie, Shimla, Chamba, and many other important destinations within Himachal Pradesh.

By flight:

The closest airport is the Gaggal Airport in Dharamshala. Taxi service to Khajjiar is available at the airport.

Climate and best time to visit Khajjiar 

The summers in this hill station is very pleasant with temperatures varying from a minimum of 10 degrees to a maximum of 39 degrees. Winters can be quite harsh with the minimum of -10 degrees and a stock of woolen clothes will be required. During monsoon regular rainfall is received and is ideal time to enjoy nature due to the greenery. In general, though the best time to visit Khajjiar is from February to April during the summer months.

Places To Visit Around Khajjiar

Khajjiar Lake: It is one of the most important tourist attractions. Small streams flow into the lake. The surrounding is beautifully engulfed by woods of cedar. The majestic view of the hills is a treat for the eyes. It serves as a perfect spot for picnic parties. 

Golden Devi Temple: The Golden Devi temple is a very holy site which enjoys a location amid a golf course. The golden dome on the top of the temple looks brilliant. 

Khajjinag Temple: A very old temple of Himachal Pradesh, it is devoted to Khajji Nag (serpent god). It is said that the temple was built in the 12th century. The amazing work of wood carvings is mention worthy. The biggest attraction of the temple is the hanging images of the victorious Pandavas and the defeated Kaurvas. 

Kailash Sight and Horse Riding: The Kailash Mountain is clearly visible on a cloud free day. Exploring the place on a horse back is a great experience one should experiance. 

Other places of tourist interest in close proximity to Khajjiar are Chamba, Dalhousie, Kalatope, Bharmour, Lakkarmandi and Jot. These places serve as perfect weekend getaways from Khajjiar.
