Kodachadri which means “Jasmine of the hills” is mountain peak located in Karnataka at an altitude of 1,343 meters above sea level. This peak has also been declared as a natural heritage site by the Government of Karnataka. It is supposedly the 10th highest peak in Karnataka. It is surrounded by dense forest which adds to the charm of this place. It also provides a home to many wild animals. The animals that live here are Malabar Langur, Indian leopard, Indian elephant etc and many among these are endangered species. The view of the Western Ghats from this peak is nothing short of breath taking. Since this is a peak it is also a trekker’s paradise. So if you are a nature/wildlife lover, a passionate photographer, or trekking enthusiast then “Kodachadri” is the destination you need to visit.

By train:
The closest station is the Kundapura railway station. This station is well connected to not only neighbouring towns but to major cities as well.
By roads:
To reach Kodachadri a traveller will initially need to travel from Bangalore to Shimoga or Udipi before a taxi, bike, jeep etc could be used to reach a village called “Nagodi”. Then from Nagodi village one would need to trek since no vehicles are permitted.
By flights:
The nearest airport to Kodachadri is located in Mangalore. From the airport taxis are available to Nagodi village.
Climate and the best time to visit Kodachadri Hills
During summers which begins in March and ends in May the temperature varies from 25 degrees to 35 degrees. Winter (December to February) is not severe and the temperature varies between 15 degrees to 20 degrees. This place receives heavy rainfall during the monsoon season which begins in June and ends in August. So the ideal time to visit this beautiful peak is between March and May i.e. summer months.
Places To Visit Around Kodachadri
Hidlumane Falls: This lovely waterfall should not be missed while in Kodachadri hills. The sound of the water falling from a height is too melodious.
Nagara Fort: Also known as the Bidanur Fort, this fort belonged to the Keladi Dynasty and was built during the 18th century. The Linganamakki Dam backwaters on Sharavathi River and thick woods fence this fort beautifully. The mesmerizing view of the Western Ghats from here is an experience in itself.
Chitramoola: This is a wonderful location on Kodachadri hills. This site is very holy as Sri Adi Shankara is said to have meditated here for some days. The cave here can also be reached through a steep trek on the western side of the hill.
Arasinagundi falls: This cascading waterfall is located at the bottom of Kodachadri hills and enjoys a brilliant location inside deep forest.
BelakalluTheertha: This is another gorgeous waterfall that is situated beneath Kodachadri hills on its southern part.
Trekking: Kodachadri has some amazing trekking routes. An easy trekking route is the one from Sampekatte Village on the Jeep Road.
Other places of tourist interest in close proximity to Kodachadri include Maravanthe, Kollur, Bhatkal, Byndoor, Murudeshwar, Udupi, and Agumbe.
