Kufri is a beautiful hill station located in the Shimla district in the state of Himachal Pradesh approximately 13 km from Shimla on the National Highway No 22. The word Kufri is derived from the word “Kufr” meaning lake in Pahari, the local language of the state. The picture perfect setting that includes snow clad mountain peaks and the presence of serene nature parks is what makes Kufri an ideal tourist destination. This hill station is also a “trekker’s paradise” with a number of hiking trails and trekking routes available. This quaint hill station is also famous for horseback rides which also happen to be one of the best ways to explore this place. Adding more charm to this hill station is the presence of lush green forests. So if you are genuine nature lover or a die-hard trekking enthusiast then “Kufri” is the ideal destination for you to visit.

By train:

The closest narrow gauge railway route to Kufri is in Shimla. While the closest broad gauge station is in Kalka railway station which is located in the state of Haryana.

By road:

Many bus services to Kufri are available from places such as Narkanda, Shimla, and Rampur. There are also many state bus services and private deluxe bus services available from Shimla to Kufri. The starting points in close proximity to this hill station are Kullu and Manali.

By flight:

The nearest airport to Kufri is the Shimla airport located at Jabarhatti. This airport receives frequent flights from Delhi. Taxi services to Kufri are also available from this airport.

Climate and the best time to visit Kufri Hills

The climate usually remains pleasant right throughout the year with, the temperature during summer (April to June) ranging from 12 degrees to 19 degrees. Winters (October to March) are severe with the minimum temperature dropping to sub zero levels and snowfall is very common during this time. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in July and extends up to September is scanty with the temperature dropping to about 10 degrees.

Places To Visit Around Kufri

Himalayan National Park: It is home to nearly 180 species of birds and animals, some of them being of rare species. It provides shelter to snow leopards, musk deer, etc. It is a great eco tourism hub that houses a lot of endangered species of fauna. The variety of flora here needs a special mention. Some of the temples near the Himalayan National Park are accessible only during fall and summers. 

Indira Tourist Park: Located within a close vicinity to the Himalayan National Park, Indira Tourist Park offers panoramic views of the mighty Himalayas. The coffee shop called Café Lalit is a big attraction here, where one can relax with friends or family. An exotic environment is what one can expect here. 

Fagu: It is known for its grand vistas that can be reached in a day’s excursion from Kufri. It is a great locale for naturalists, trekkers, and campers. The temples located above Fagu, devoted to the local god, Banthiadevta are worth visiting. The marvelous wood carvings on the temple walls manifest the unique craftsmanship of the local people. 

Mahasu Peak: The hiking route through the dense forests to the Mahasu Peak is an experience in itself. 

Kufri Fun World: This is an amusement park, perfect for families visiting the destination with children. There are some awesome rides and pools to enjoy. Kufri Fun World also the highest go-kart track in the world. 

ChiniBunglow: The statues and architecture showcased at the ChiniBunglow are simply outstanding. 

Other places of tourist interest in proximity to Kufri includes Shimla, Chail, Shoghi, Solan, Arki, Barog, Kasauli, Nalagarh, Mashobra, Naldehra, Kotkhai, Narkanda, and Parwanoo and additionally they serve as perfect weekend getaway destinations from Kufri.
