Located on the banks of the River Beas is an extremely scenic town known as “Kullu”.  This city is famous for its exquisite natural beauty that includes beautiful hills covered with pine trees deodar trees and splendid apple orchards. In addition, this scenic town is also possesses myths with it being mentioned in Hindu epics such as the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. So if you intend to relax in the presence of true natural beauty away from the hustle and bustle of city life then Kullu is a destination that must be explored.

How to reach Kullu ?

By train:

There are two railway stations that lie in close proximity to Kullu i.e. Jogindernagar Railway Station at a distance of 95 km and Chandigarh Railway Station at a distance of 272 km. It is the Chandigarh Railway Station though that is extremely well connected to the major cities in the country. In addition, there are regular bus services available from Chandigarh Railway Station to Kullu.

  1. By road:

There are a number of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation bus services available from cities such as Delhi, Shimla, Pathankot, Palampur, and Ambala. In addition, travelling by road to Kullu is convenient from Manali, and Shimla.

  1. By Air:

The Kullu Airport also known as the “Bhuntar Airport” consists of two terminals i.e. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. This airport connects to major cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Mumbaietcfrquently via major airlines that includes Air India. 

Climate and best time to visit Kullu:

“Extremely pleasant” is the best way to describe the summer months in Kullu which begins in March and ends in June with the temperature ranging from 10 degree Celsius minimum to 25 degree Celsius maximum. The rainfall received during the monsoons which begins in July and ends in September being “heavy” with landslides commonly witnessed during this period. The winter months that begins in October and ends in February is extremely “chilly” with the mercury even dropping to below 0 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit Kullu is during the “pleasant” summers that begin in March and end in June.

Places To Visit Around Kullu 

Kullu is a popular tourist hotspot that comprises of a number of places worth visiting. A few of them are as follows

Raghunath Temple:

It is considered to be the oldest temple in the Kullu valley. This temple is dedicated to Lord Raghunath and is also linked to Lord Rama. In addition, to mythological significance this temple is also known for its beautiful Pahari and Pyramidal architecture and design as well as for the magnificent view of its surroundings.

Bijli Mahadev Temple:

This temple located in the Kullu valley is said to be home to a Shiva linga that was broken to pieces by lightening which,was then bound together by a priest using butter. The exquisitely beautiful scenery that surrounds this temple makes this an enchanting destination in the valley that is worth a visit.

Pandoh Dam:

Is a dam located in the valley that is renowned for picturesque views of the surrounding hills. In addition, the view of the flowing River Beas makesthis dam not only enchanting but, also a destination worth a visit. 

The Great Himalayan National Park:

The Great Himalayan National Park is considered to be one of India’s national parks that is spread over an area of 1,171 km sq and elevated at an altitude of 1500 to 1600 meters in the Kullu valley. This park is popular for its exotic flora and fauna and was established in 1984. In addition, its overall natural beauty is soothing to the eye and therefore a must visit.
