Located at a distance of about 70 km from Udupi city in Karnataka is a scenic hill station called Kundadri. It is located in the Shimoga district at an altitude of 2,710 feet above sea level. It is renowned for a Jain temple built during the 17th century dedicated to the 23rdThirthankara Lord Parshwanatha. In addition, an all-weather road connecting to this hill station is being constructed by the Government of Karnataka in collaboration with a philanthropist from Mumbai.

- By train:
The nearest railway station is located in Shimoga at a distance of 80 km. The Shimoga Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the state such as Mangalore, Hampi, and Bangalore.
- By road:
If you intend to drive to Kundadri then, the ideal starting point would be from Udupi (which is located at a distance of 70 km) via the NH-169A route. This route includes Manipal, Perdur, Hebri, Agumbe, Naritur, and finally Kundadri.
- By air:
The closest airport to this scenic hill station is located in Mangalore. The Mangalore Airport is well connected to major cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi etc via major airlines such as Jet Airways, SpiceJet, Air India Express etc.
Climate and the best to visit Kundadri
The climate during the summer in this hill station which begins in March and ends in June is hot with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 36 degree Celsius to a minimum of 20 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during monsoons which begins in July and ends in September is “heavy”. The winter, on the other hand, arrives in December and departs in February is pleasant with temperature ranging from a minimum of 25 degree Celsius and maximum of 37 degree Celsius. So except during the monsoons from July to September this picturesque hill station can be visited anytime throughout the year.
Places to visit in Kundadri
There are a few places located in and around Kundadri that are worth visiting. They are as follows
- Agumbe
Agumbe is an extremely picturesque village located in close proximity to this hill station. This village is renowned for being the “wettest place in South of India”. Apart from its exquisite scenic beauty it is also known for its exotic flora and fauna.
- Barkana Falls
Barkana falls is located in the Western Ghats and is surrounded by beautiful lush green forests. This waterfall is an ideal picnic spot, and provides magnificent view of gushing water flowing from the Seeta River. In addition, a hydroelectric project set up by the Government of Karnataka is located at this waterfall. This site is also ideal for adventure activities such as trekking and fishing.
- BhadraWildlife Sanctuary
The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is renowned for being home to the Tiger. This sanctuary is located in the Chikmagalur town and is named after the River Bhadra. Apart from the Tiger this sanctuary is also home to animals such as Elephant, Tiger, Bison, Leopard, Chital, Wild boar and deer etc. In addition, this sanctuary also comprises of about 120 species of trees.
- ShringeriSharadamba Temple
The ShringeriSharadamba Temple is a popular Hindu Shrine located in close proximity to this hill station. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, and was founded by Adi Shankaracharya during the 8th century. In addition, the sandalwood statue of the goddess in this temple was replaced with gold during the 14th century.
