On top of the Sivalik Hills lies an extremely beautiful town called “Nahan” in the Sirmaur District in Himachal Pradesh.  This town is located at an altitude of 3058 feet and was founded in 1621 by Raja KaramPrakash.  It is known for its charming scenic beauty and for the magnificent views of the surrounding Himalayas. According to a legend, this town got its name from a saint who lived in this region called “Nahar” which means “Don’t kill”.  The Indian Special Forces Training School is also located in this town. So if you are a true nature a lover than “Nahan” is an ideal destination for you to visit.

By train:

The closest railway stations to Nahan are Chandigarh, Kalka, and Yamunanagar. These railway stations are well linked to most of the major cities and towns in the country.

By road:

This hill station is well connected via road from New Delhi. There are a number of bus services i.e. private and government that operate from Delhi to Nahan.

By flight:

The closest airports to Nahan are in Chandigarh, Dehradun, and Shimla. These airports are well linked to most of the major cities in the country.

Climate and the best time to visit Nahan

This beautiful town called Nahan experiences a pleasant climate throughout the year with, the temperature during the summers from April to June reaching 38 degrees. The rainfall received during monsoon which begins in July and ends in September experiences heavy rainfall. While the winters beginnings in October and extends till February is generally pleasant although at times the mercury could drop to below 0 degrees. The idea time to visit Nahan is from September to November.

Places To Visit Around Nahan

Renuka Lake: Is a lake that is considered to be the largest in Himachal Pradesh and is around 672 meters in length. A temple called “Renuka Temple” is located in close proximity to this lake.

Renuka Wildlife Sanctuary:  Is a sanctuary that covers about 402.80 hectares of land and includes the Renuka Reserve Forest and the Renuka Lake. The wildlife seen in this sanctuary include animals such as Asiatic lions, lion tailed macaques, Indian antelope, red jungle fowl, chital, sambar etc. This sanctuary also consists of variety of birds such as peacock, black pheasant, aquatic birds etc.

Suketi Fossil Park: Is considered to be amongst the most famous fossil parks in Asia. This park is also popular for its Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) models of prehistoric animals. This park is located on the left side of the Markanda River.
