Originally named “Ldumra”, meaning “the valley of flowers”, and located at a distance of 150 km away from Leh in the Ladakh district is a beautiful hill station known as Nubra Valley. This scenic hill station is elevated at an altitude of 10,000 feet above sea level. Additionally, the famous Siachen glacier is located towards the north in close proximity to this hill station. Furthermore, foreign tourists need to obtain a “Protected area permit” in order to visit this region.

By train
The closest railway station located in the Nubra Valley is in Jammu. The Jammu Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country. Taxi and bus services from this station to Leh and then to Diskit in the Nubra Valley are available.
By road
If you want to drive down to this valley the best way would be to start from Leh via the Khardung La Road. This route includes North Pullu, Khalsar, Terith, and Sumur before finally reaching Nubra Valley.
By air:
The nearest airport to the Nubra Valley is located in Leh. The Leh airport is well connected to major cities in the country. Taxi and bus services are available from this airport to Nubra Valley. Alternatively, the Srinagar airport can also be used to reach this hill station.
Climate and the best time to visit Nubra Valley
The summers in the Nubra valley which begins in April and ends in July is usually “hot” with the temperature ranging from maximum of 20 degree Celsius and a minimum of 8 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoon season which begins in August and lasts till September is “heavy”. The winter on the other hand which begins in October and ends in May is extremely cold with the temperature ranging from maximum of -15 degree Celsius to a minimum of -10 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this hill station is from April to July during the summers.

- SamstemlingGompa
The SamstemlingGompa is a Buddhist monastery located at a distance of 1 km from the Sumur Village. This monastery is renowned for varied collection of Buddhist idols, wall paintings and tangkhas (Buddhist scrolls).
- EnsaGompa
The EnsaGompa is a Buddhist monastery that is apparently 250 years old located near the Panamik Village. It is renowned for a collection of Buddhist murals and scriptures. In addition, this monastery also provides for picturesque views of the entire Nubra Valley thereby, not only making it a “photographer’s delight” but a major tourist attraction as well.
- Panamik
Panamik is a small and extremely beautiful village located in the Nubra Valley. This village is renowned for its beautiful hot water springs and mesmerizing scenic beauty that includes colorful trees, especially during September and October. The hot water springs found in this village is situated at an incredibly high altitude of 10,000 feet above sea level.
- Khardung La Pass
The Khardung La Pass is located at an altitude of 18, 380 feet above sea level, and is known for the exquisite beauty that surrounds it. In addition, this pass is considered to be the doorway to the Nubra and Shyok Valleys.
