The sobriquet “Satpura ki Rani or Queen of Satpura” has been given to a beautiful hill station in the state of Madhya Pradesh called “Pachmarhi”. It is located at an altitude of 1100 m above sea level in the valley of the Satpura range in the Hoshangabad district. It was Captain James Forsyth of the British Army and Subedhar Major Nathoo Ramji Powar who were responsible for developing what was initially a plateau into a hill station. This hill station is famous for its dense forests, hills, canyons, and beautiful waterfalls. Pachmarhi is also famous for a picturesque sunset view with beautiful green capped mountains providing the background. There are also a number of caves with archaeological significance found in this hill station.  The presence of bamboo trees, sal forest etc only adds to the beauty of this region. If you intend to truly enjoy nature then “Pachmari” is the perfect destination for you.

By train:

The closest railway station to Pachmarhi is in Pipariya in the Hoshangabad district. The Pipariya Railway Station is well connected to major Indian cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore etc.

By road:

There are many state owned as well as private buses in cities within the state like Pipariya, Chhindwar, Bhopaletc that travel to Pachimarhi. Mumbai and Ahmedabad are starting points that lie in close proximity to Pachmarhi.

By flight:

The closest airport to Pachimarhi is in Bhopal.  The Bhopal Airport is well connected and it receives regular flights from major cities in the country like Delhi, Mumbai, Gwalior etc. The nearest international airport is in Delhi.

Climate and the best time to visit Pachmarhi 

The climate of Pachimarhi can be typically described as “temperate”. The summers begin in May and ends in June with mercury rarely rising above 35 degrees. During the winter season (November to February) the temperature drops as result it is very cold with the minimum temperature being 4 degrees. The rainfall received in this region during the monsoon season (July to September) is “moderate” with the atmosphere during this period being perfect for “romance”. The best time to visit this beautiful hill station is from October to June.

Places To Visit Around Pachmarhi

Pandava caves: It is believed that the Pandavas took shelter here while in exile. It has a total of five caves, out of which ‘DraupadiKuti’ is the cleanest. Buddhist monks during 1st century were believed to have taken refuge in Pandava caves. 

Jata Shankar caves: Itis a natural cave that has a Shivalingam beneath a huge rock. The rocks of this cave resembles the hair of Lord Shiva and hence the name Jata Shankar. 

HandiKhoh: This is a magnificent canyon that offers some spectacular views. The dense forest around makes it a lovely site for the tourists. It is also known for its extreme tranquility. 

Bee Falls (JamunaPrapat): This is a popular waterfall that provides water to the region. Also known as JamunaPrapat, or the Bee Falls this waterfall looks spectacular. It has bathing pools on the top. 

ApsaraVihar: This is a small waterfall which serves as a nice picnic spot. It is also ideal for diving and swimming. 

Duchess Falls: This is a waterfall that divides itself into three different paths. Visitors can enjoy swimming in the nearby puddles. 

Chauragarh Peak: This peak provides a brilliant view of the verdant valleys, hills, and the woods. It is a popular pilgrimage center too. The scared shrine of Lord Mahadev is located atop the hill. A series of 1250 steps leads to the top of the hill. 

Forsyth Point: It is at this point that, Captain Forsyth founded Pachmarhi in 1857. One should surely enjoy the splendid view from this point including that of the HandiKhoh ravine. 

Mahadeo Hill: This hill is known for the ancient shrine of Lord Shiva. The hill has some deep gorges. There is a cave on the eastern side with a pond inside were devotees visit to take a dip in the water. 

Other tourist places of interest in close proximity to Pachmarhi include Raj Prapat (Big Fall), Sangam (Fuller’s Kund), VanashreeVihar (Pansy Pool), Sunder Kund (Saunder’s Pool), Reechhgarh, BhrantNeer (Dorothy Deep), Tridhara (Picadilly Circus).
