“Five hills” is what “Panchgani” a beautiful hill station located in the Satara district in Maharashtra literally means. This hill station is famous for its mesmerizing natural beauty. The true charm of this hill station lies in its cool and serene atmosphere. Panchgani was first discovered during the British Raj and a superintendent by the name of John Chesson was appointed to take charge of this hill station in the 1860’s. It is also known for a number of boarding schools. This hill station is also known for its pure and oxygen rich air. So if you are nature lover or you feel the need to unwind in an oxygen rich environment then “Panchgani” is definitely a destination that you would be keen to visit.

By train:

The closest railway station to Panchgani is in Pune located at about 105 km away from this hill station. The Pune Railway Station is well connected to major cities in the country such as Delhi, Mysore, Chennai, Jaipur etc.

By road:

There are a number of bus services available from places such as Mumbai, Satara, Kolhapur, Pune to Panchgani.

By flight:

The closest airport to Panchgani is in Pune. The Pune Airport is about two and half hours away from Panchgani and is well connected to many major cities such as Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai etc.

Climate and the best time to visit Panchgani

The climate in Panchgani can be described as “a mixture of hot, dry and pleasant” with, the temperatures during summers which begin in March and ends in May ranging from 20 degrees to 38 degrees. Rainfall received during the monsoons which begin in June and extends to September is “moderate”. While during the winter months from December to February the temperature ranges from 8 degrees to 30 degrees. The best time to visit is in between September to May.

Places To Visit Around Panchgani

  1. Sydney Point: Is located at a distance of 3 km from Panchgani. This point is famous for providing picturesque views of Krishna Valley, Dhom Dam, Kamalgad Fort etc.
  2. Kamalgad Fort: Is a fort that can be called an “enigma”. This fort covers an area of nearly 3 to 4 acres and is surrounded by steep rocks. On top of this fort is a hole which holds water. This hole is the remnants of what was once a well.
  3. Pratapgad Fort: This fort is located at about 40 km away from Panchgani. It is also supposed to be one of the more popular forts belonging to Maratha history. It was constructed by the Maratha Emperor Shivaji in the year 1656. This is also a major tourist attraction, especially for trekkers.
  4. Table Land: Is one of the most popular tourist spots in Panchgani. It is also supposed to be the highest point in Panchgani. This region is also apparently the second longest mountain plateau located at an altitude of 1387 above sea level.
