“Queens’s Meadows” or Ranikhet is a scenic hill station located in the Almora district in the state of Uttarakhand. This cantonment town home to the Kumaon Regiment (KRC) and Naga Regiment of the Indian Army is located at an altitude of 1,869 meters above sea level.  This beautiful hill station is known for its true natural beauty. This beautiful town also provides for beautiful views of snow clad peaks including the Nanda Devi Peak.  The landscape available here is also perfect for adventure sports including trekking. So if you either are a genuine nature lover or an adventure enthusiast then “Ranikhet” is certainly a destination that you need to explore.

By train:

Located at a distance of 80 km from Ranikhet the Kathgodam Railway Station is the closest station. This station in Kathgodam is well connected to most major cities and towns. Taxi services to Ranikhet are also available from this station.

By road:

There are a number of bus services provided by Uttarakhand roadways and KMOU bus services that operate from ISBT AnandVihar, Delhi to places like Kathgodam and Almora. There are taxi services also available to Ranikhet from major destinations in the state of Uttarakhand.

By flight:

The closest airport to Ranikhet is in Pantnagar. The Pantnagar Airport located at a distance of 119 kilometres away from Ranikhet is well linked to many major cities and towns. Taxi services from the airport to Ranikhet are available.

Climate and best time to visit Ranikhet 

The climate throughout the year ranges from “pleasant to cold”. The temperatures recorded during the summer months of March to May on an average being 22 degrees. The rainfall received during the monsoons which begin in June and ends in August is “heavy” and during this season the beauty of this scenic hill station is enhanced while, the winters which begin in October and ends in February are cold with the temperature ranging from 3 degrees to 7 degrees. The best time to visit this scenic hill station is either between March to June or from September to November.

Places To Visit Around Ranikhet

  1. Bhaludam: Is an artificial small lake that is a major tourist attraction in Ranikhet. This lake was built by British Government in 1903. The lush green environment and serene ambiance is what makes this lake popular with tourists. This lake is open for tourist right throughout the year.
  2. Jhula Devi Temple: Is an 8th-century Hindu temple situated in Ranikhet. It is located at a distance of 7 kilometres away from Ranikhet town on the Kumaon Hills. This temple is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Durga. It is also famous for its iconic “cluster bells”.
  3. Mankameshwar Temple: Is a temple and is yet another major tourist attraction in Ranikhet. It is located in the Pithoragarh palace. This temple is renowned for the scenic beauty that surrounds it and, is one of the major reasons why it attracts a large number of tourists.
