Popular for an annual fair and, located in the Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh is a scenic hill station called Renuka. It is elevated at an altitude of 2,205 feet above sea level. In addition, it is renowned for a lake, considered to be the largest in the state possessing a circumference of about 3214 meters. Furthermore, this lake has been named after a Hindu goddess known as “Renuka”.

The closest railway station is located in Ambala. The Ambala Railway Station is well connected to cities such as Delhi, Kalka, Amritsar, Kolkata, Jammu, and Mumbai. Furthermore, the Delhi, Kalka, and Amritsar stations are connected to this hill station via the Shatabdi train service.
By road:
If you intend to drive to Renuka then, the ideal way is to use the NH-73 route, which includes Roorkee, Panchkula, Saharanpur, and then finally connects to Nahan on NH-72. You can also use NH-72 to connect from places such as Haridwar and Dehradun via Poanta Sahib to eventually reach Nahan.
By air:
The nearest airport is located in Chandigarh at a distance of 112 km. The Chandigarh Airport is well connected to major cities such as Delhi, Jammu, and Mumbai. Taxi services are available from this airport to this hill station.
Climate and best time to visit Renuka
The months March to May is when this hill station experiences summer with the temperature ranging from a maximum of 35 degree Celsius to a minimum of 18 degree Celsius. The rainfall received during the monsoons which begins in June and ends in September is “heavy”. While the winter months which arrive in October, and ends in February is severely “cold” with the mercury even dropping to 0 degree Celsius i.e. sub-zero temperatures at times. Therefore, the ideal time to visit this hill station is from June to October when the temperature is pleasant.

Renuka Lake
The Renuka Lake is a major tourist attraction located in this hill station. This lake is renowned for its exquisite beauty, and is surrounded by a number of beautiful temples. According to a popular myth this lake, is the site where Renuka, the wife of RishiJamadagini committed suicide so as to avoid being abducted by the evil Sahasarjuna.
Jamu Peak
The Jamu Peak is located at a distance of about 8 km from this hill station provides for picturesque views of the beautiful Renuka Lake. According to popular folklore Rishi Jamadagini is said to have meditated at this peak. Furthermore, there is a footpath that leads to this peak.
Parashurama Tal and Renuka Temple
The Parshurama Tal and Renuka Temple is a popular Hindu shrine located in this region. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Renuka This beautiful shrine is said to been constructed during the 19th century. Additionally, an annual fair is organized every November at this temple.
Renuka Wildlife Sanctuary
The Renuka Wildlife Sanctuary is a popular tourist attraction located in this region, and is spread over an area of 402 hectares. This sanctuary is known to be “home” to exotic wildlife that includes Indian antelope, Asiatic lions, red-jungle fowl, and Himalayan black-bears.
