Shimla a beautiful hill station located in the picturesque state of Himachal Pradesh. This hill station which is located at an altitude of 2,206 meters above sea level is known for its natural beauty and, over the years become a favorite tourist destination. Shimla is surrounded by beautiful dense forests which give it an old-world charm. During the British Raj Shimla was used as a “Summer Capital”. The combination of pleasant climate and beautiful landscapes means it is a perfect destination for honeymoon. So if natural beauty is what you want or you are a newly married couple in search of a honeymoon destination then “Shimla” is certainly worth exploring.

By train:

The nearest railway station to Shimla is in Kalka.  The Kalka station is very well connected to major cities in the country like Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Kolkata etc. Taxi services to Shimla are available at Kalka.

By road:

There are many frequent bus services from cities within the state to Shimla. Bus services from major North Indian cities like Delhi and Chandigarh are also available. In terms of starting points, Kullu and Manali lie in close proximity.

This scenic hill station has its own airport i.e. Jubbarhatti Airport. While the closest international airport is in Delhi.

Climate and the best time to visit Shimla Hills

The climate in Shimla all through the year is pleasant. The summer months that begin in March and end in June are pleasant with the temperature ranging from 15 degrees to 30 degrees. The winters which begin in October and until till February are severe with temperature ranging from 8 degrees to – 2 degrees. The monsoon’s that begin in July and end in September are heavy and is not the ideal time to visit due to landslides. The ideal time to visit this hill station is from March to June.

Places To Visit Around Shimla

Jakhu temple: Jakhu temple on the Jakhu hill, is devoted to Lord Hanuman, and is a notable tourist point that offers adventure lovers a chance to trek uphill. Others can hire a pony to reach the spot.

Chail Wildlife Sanctuary: It is a beautiful wildlife sanctuary, located on the top of the mountain that offers spectacular views. The sanctuary is the home of a variety of species like the crested porcupine, Himalayan black bear, rhesus macaque, wild boar, sambar, panthers, European red deer, etc. Cheer and kalij pheasant are some birds that nest here.

Arki Fort: This fort holds an intriguing historical background. Today, it is a heritage hotel that depicts a fusion of Rajput and Mughal architecture. The beautiful paintings on the walls showcase the rustic lifestyle of the local people.

Mall Road: A visit to Shimla is incomplete without a visit here. It is a place for socializing with tourists and locals alike. Travelers can observe a variety of shops selling local handicrafts. The Mall is a big tourist attraction in this scenic city.

Shimla State Museum: Opened in 1974, it is home to a variety of sculptures, paintings, wood-carvings, textiles, and jewelry from the region.

Other places of tourist interest in close proximity to Shimla areMashobra, Wild Flower Hall, Narkanda, Fagu, Tattapani, Kotgarh, and Hatkoti.
