Located on the road that connects RekongPeo to Kaza in Himachal Pradesh is an extremely picturesque hill station called Tabo. It is elevated at an altitude of 10,760 feet above sea level. Furthermore, this hill station also possesses the renowned “Tabo Monastery”. Apparently, the Dalai Lama has apparently confessed to intending to live his retired life at this monastery, since he considers it to be one of the “holiest” Buddhist shrines.

The nearest minor railway station located to Tabois in Jogindernagar. While Chandigarh and Shimla are the nearest major railway stations located in close proximity to this hill station. The Chandigarh and Shimla railway stations are well connected to major cities in the country.
By road:
If you intend to travel Tabo via road then the ideal way is to connect to NH-505 i.e. Leh-Manali Highway route which comprises of Bashist, Chhatru, Pangmo, Kibber, Spiti Valley, Kaza, Dhankhar, Siluk, Qurith, before finally arriving at Tabo.
By air:
The closest airport located to Tabo is the Kullu-Manali Airport. The Bhuntar Airport is well connected to major cities in the country such as Dharamsala, Chandigarh, New Delhi, and Shimla.
Climate and best time to visit Tabo
The summer in Tabo which begins in May and ends in October is extremely pleasant with an average temperature of 13 degree Celsius recorded. There exist no monsoon season in this region. The winter which arrives in November and departs in April is extremely severe with the mercury dropping to below 0 degree Celsius i.e. -37 degree Celsius. So the ideal time to visit this scenic hill station is during the summer from May to October.

Tabo Monastery
Also commonly referred to as the “Ajanta of the Himalayas” is the TaboChos-Khor Monastery. This monastery was established way back in the year 996 AD. It is “home” to priceless Buddhist scroll paintings, magnificent statues in stuccos, frescos etc. Additionally, the complex of this monastery comprises of 8 temples, 23 chortens, and a chamber constructed especially for monks.
