Established by Lt Frederick Young of the East India Company, is a quaint hill station located in the Dehradun district known as Mussoorie. ’24 km’ is the distance which separates a scenic hill station in Uttarakhand known as Dhanaulti from Mussoorie. Located in close proximity to Dehradun, this quaint town is elevated at an altitude of 2286 meters above sea level, and is known for its picturesque beauty. Situated at an elevation of about 7000 to about 7250 feet above sea level, is a picturesque hill station in Uttarakhand known as Chakrata. Located in the Dehradun district, this town was once the cantonment of the British army during the days of the Raj. It is known for its scenic beauty, and its landscape is filled with green vegetation that includes conifers, rhododendrons and oak trees. It also is popular for a spot known as ‘Deoban’, which provides for the magnificent views of the Himalayas. Furthermore, this hill station is also known for a spot called ‘Chilmiri’, that provides for the beautiful views of the ‘rising and setting of the sun’.

Khirsu Map
‘1700 meters’ is an altitude at which a quaint hill station in Uttarakhand known as Khirsu is elevated at. Situated in the Pauri Garhwal district at a distance of 92 km from Dehradun, this hill station is known for its scenic beauty. It comprises of a landscape that is filled with evergreen trees such as deodar, and oak. In addition, it also comprises of beautiful apple orchards. Located in close proximity to this hill stations are the Ghandiyal Devi and Kyunkaleshwar Mahadev Temples. A point known as ‘Chaukamba’ situated in this hill station provides for the magnificent view of the surrounding Himalayas.

Lansdowne Map
Named after a British Viceroy, is a quaint hill station situated in close proximity to Dehradun called Lansdowne. It is elevated at an altitude of 1706 meters above sea level, and is currently home to the ‘Garhwal Rifles’ regiment of the Indian army. Furthermore, apart from its scenic beauty it is known for a war memorial, museum, and a number of temples. Historically speaking, this hill station was originally built by the British to create a training center for the ‘Garhwal Rifles’ regiment.

The summers in Kausani are extremely pleasant and the temperature ranges from 11 degrees to 25 degrees. Winters can be severe with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 2 degrees to a maximum of 15 degrees. Snowfall during winters is common. Rainfall during monsoon is moderate. The ideal time to visit this beautiful hill station is from September to May. Although one must add that for trekkers summer would be the ideal time to visit.
Gandhi Ashram (Anasakti Ashram): Mahatma Gandhi stayed here for some days when he wrote the commentary on AnashktiYog. It has a very peaceful atmosphere with a majestic view of the Himalayas in the background. It is an ideal place for meditation.
Rudradhari Falls and Caves: It is beautifully located amidst fields of paddy and pine forests. It is a great natural attraction with several caves within a close proximity.
Trekking points: Pindari Glacier, SundarDhunga Glacier, and Kafni Glacier can be seen while trekking uphill. The Pindari Glacier is nestled between Nanda Devi and Nanda Kot mountains. On the trek route, one will encounter plenty of breathtaking views of the Himalayas and the surrounding.
Sumitranandan Pant Gallery: The gallery is devoted to Hindi poet Sumitranandan Pant, who was born in this hill station. This gallery is housed within the residence of the poet. It has some great collection of the poet’s poems, articles, literary works, letters, and also awards.
Kasauni Tea Estate and Factory: It is a very famous tea estate where the popular Girias Uttaranchal tea is produced. A visit to this tea estate is an enchanting experience because of the lush greenery visible in all the directions.
