Historically speaking, an extremely scenic hill station located in Arunachal Pradesh known as Tawang is supposed to have been a part of Tibet. Elevated at an altitude of 2669 meters above sea level, it is known for a popular Buddhist monastery. It is also renowned for its picturesque surroundings, and beautiful temperate climate. Furthermore, it was at this hill station that the 14th Dalai Lama took refuge for a few days, after escaping Tibet in order to avoid being held in clutches by the invading Chinese army in 1959.
