When we think of monsoons the Raj Kapoor-Nargis song “PyarHuaIkrarHua” from the movie Shree 420 instantly comes to mind. This is because this song has been shot in the rain. Coincidentally rain also represents romance. So if you really want to enjoy “romance” then monsoon is the season. And best way to enjoy the romantic monsoon season is to travel to a hill station that provides such an atmosphere.

The ten popular hill stations ideally suited to be visited during the monsoons are as follows

  1. Kodaikanal-Tamil Nadu:

Popularly known as “The Gift of the Forest” Kodaikanal,is a perfect tourist hotspot especially during monsoons. Beautiful waterfalls and evergreen atmosphere during this season is a major reason why it must be visited.

  1. Wayanad-Kerala:

Wayanad is a district in Kerala located in the Western Ghat at an altitude ranging from 700 to 2100 meters.  It is a popular tourist destination especially during the monsoons which begin in June and end in September due to the presence of an evergreen atmosphere and cool climate.

Located in the Western Ghat in Maharashtra this scenic hill station is popular tourist destination. It also servesas a perfect monsoon getaway destination because of its cool climate, evergreen forests, and tranquil atmosphere.

  1. Khandala-Maharashtra:

Khandala is a popular hill station located in Maharashtra at a distance of 3 kilometres from Lonavla. It is also an ideal destination to visit during the monsoons due to its “clean and green” environment and cool climate.

  1. Lonavla-Maharashtra:

Popular for production of a type of hard candy called “Chikki” Lonavla is scenic hill station located in Maharashtra. With some beautiful waterfalls and evergreen environment this hill station is a perfect monsoon getaway destination.

  1. Panchgani-Maharashtra:

It takes approximately 5 hours to reach Panchgani a scenic hill station located in Western Ghat from Mumbai. This popular hill station with its appealing evergreen and tranquil environment makes for an ideal monsoon getaway.

  1. Kausani-Uttarakhand:

Kausani is a scenic hill station located in the Bageshwar district in Uttarakhand. It’s clean and tranquil atmosphere during the months of July to September is what makes it an ideal monsoon getaway destination.

Commonly referred to as “Scotland of India” Coorg is a scenic hill station located in the Kodagu district in Karnataka. Cool climate and lush green landscapes during the monsoons is what makes this hill station a must visit during this period.

  1. Shillong- Meghalaya:

Shillong also known as “The Abode of Clouds” is a scenic hill station located in Meghalaya. This hill station is an ideal monsoon getaway destination due to the presence of a number of magnificent waterfalls and a lush green environment.

  1. Mussorie-Uttarakhand:

In the state of Uttarakand is a scenic hill station called “Mussorie”. This hill station consists of lush green surroundings and a cool climate during the monsoons. Thereby, making this hill station an ideal monsoon getaway destination.
