a. The basic background of “Menchuka” and its picturesque surroundings:
“6000 feet above sea level” is the altitude at which Menchuka, a hill station located in the Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh is elevated. It also considered to be the largest town in the state. Above all though, this hill station has gained popularity in terms of attracting tourists because of its beautiful landscape which includes splendid meadows, snow clad mountain peaks, and evergreen pine forests. Furthermore, the word “Men-chu-ka” when literally translated means “medicinal water of snow”.
b. The cultural and religious richness found in “Menchuka”:
“Tribal communities” such as Memba, Ramo, Libo and Tagin commonly found in this quaint hill station called Menchuka add a lot of cultural richness to the social fabric of this region. In addition, a variety of languages such as Tshangla, Adi, Pai-libo, Bokar, Tagin, Hindi, and English used as means of communication in this picturesque village also helps add a lot charm to the culture. The fact that, a mixture of Tibetan Buddhism, Doni-Poloism, and Christianity are the types of “religion” mainly practiced by people in this hill station, only adds to the diversity of its culture. In fact, a monastery known as the “Samten Yongcha” is extremely popular in this scenic village. It is apparently 400-years-old and belongs to the “Mahayana Buddhist sect”.
c. The presence of the River Siyom in “Menchuka”:
A river named Siyom ( locally referred to as Yargyap Chu) which flows through Menchuka provides for a magnificent panoramic view of the pristine evergreen surrounding.
And so, it is the combination of facts such as pristine, tranquil, and a picturesque environment as well as the presence of a rich cultural heritage which makes “Menchuka”, an Indian hill station whose popularity among tourists is gradually on the rise.
